Definitions for League Play

Pitching: When the player is throwing the bag to the cornhole board

Woody: Any bag that has been pitched and remains on the board at the conclusion of the round

Cornhole: Any bag that has been pitched and passes through the cornhole board at any time during the round

Pitcher’s Box: The area from the back edge to front edge that the player must remain in while throwing

Foul: Any penalty against the player or team

Round: When all four bags have been thrown by both players on a side

How to play

Setup/Starting

Boards are positioned 27 feet apart (front edge to front edge). Pitcher’s boxes will be set up on both sides of the board, with the foul line even with the front of the board as the boundary of the pitcher’s box. There will be four bags (differing colors) for each team to throw. To determine who goes first, captains will play rock, paper, scissors.

Scoring

Games are played as a “best two of three” matches. Teams will play to 21 the first two matches. If a third tie-breaker match is required, teams will play to 11 in the tie-breaker. First team to reach or exceed 21 at the end of any round is the winner (11 during a tie-breaker match. Cancellation scoring is in effect: Ex. - Red lands two woodies and blue lands one woody. Score = Red- 1 Blue- 0.

Ways To Score

Zero points for any bag that is touching the ground outside the board.

One point will be awarded for the following:

‣ Any bag that is on the board

‣ Any bag that is hanging into the hole

‣ Any bag that is hanging on the edge but not touching the ground

‣ Any bag that bounces on the ground and comes to rest on the board

Three points will be awarded for any bag that passes completely through the hole

Pitching Turns

The team that scored more points in the previous round shall pitch first. Players will alternate pitching bags until all four bags have been thrown.

Fouls

Players must stay behind the front of the board while throwing. If a bag is thrown while the player is in front of the line, the bag will not be counted. Pitching out of turn will result in a foul and the bag will not be counted. No bags in scoring position should be touched until all bags have been pitched for the round.

Schedule

Weekly play will begin every Wednesday at 7:00pm in the Hop Garden, unless otherwise communicated. Tournament format will be determined each week based upon the number of players registered (single-elimination, double-elimination, round robin, etc). The league will run from May 8th thru end of Hop Garden season. In the event of a change in scoring / gameplay / team organization for any week, those changes will be communicated prior to the start of league play for that week. Players are not required to participate every week.

Payout

All funds from league play will be paid out to the winning team(s) each week. Depending on the number of players registered and/or the selected tournament format for the week, the Hop Garden may add cash to the pool for a larger payout.
